Brands Hatch GP Circuit, England - Rounds 7&8 Review07/10/2009After a three-race lean spell outside the points, Phillip Eng bounces back with a lights-to-chequered flag victory after starting from pole position in Race 1. In the narrowest win of the season so far, Eng has Andy Soucek breathing down his neck less than half a second behind, and Henry Surtees in third place under two seconds off the race pace in third. It's the first podium finish for a British driver in the championship, and the Brands Hatch home crowd cheers Henry to the rafters. In Race 2, Soucek capitalises in his pole position to claim victory, seeing off a charging Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin who claim the remaining podium positions. At the half way point of the season, Soucek has built a handy championship lead. Now, it's all to do for the others! Sadly, the race is marred by a freak accident and later in the day, the close-knit FIA Formula Two 'family' and the motor racing world at large are shocked by the tragic news that Henry has succumbed in hospital to his injuries without regaining consciousness. Comma extends its sincerest condolences to the Surtees family. |
