BRDC Formula 4 Winter Series - Snetterton

11/11/2014

With a hat trick of wins – and a second place podium – from four races, Comma-sponsored Will Palmer took the championship lead in the BRDC Formula 4 Winter Series at Snetterton on November 8/9th. Returning to the scene of his double victory for the HHC team in the main-season championship back in June, 17 year old Palmer from Southwater, West Sussex, fought a battle for supremacy all weekend with fellow teenager Gaetano di Mauro from Brazil - a protégé of former Formula 1 star Rubens Barrichello – who finished second to Palmer in the first three races and won the weekend's final encounter driving for the Petroball team.

Both drivers are using the Winter Series to close out their debut season of single-seater competition, during which Palmer finished sixth and di Mauro eighth in the main BRDC Formula 4 championship. The Winter Series concludes with four races at Brands Hatch on the weekend of November 22/23rd, and Palmer carries a twelve point lead over di Mauro – 134 to 122 – into the final encounters at the Kent circuit.

Palmer is the younger son of former Formula 1 racer Jonathan Palmer, and brother to Jolyon who - with the final race still to be run at Abu Dhabi later this month - has already carried Comma's colours to a commanding victory in the international GP2 championship.

With third place podiums in Races 1 and 3, Douglas Motorsports' Rodrigo Fonseca from Mexico lies third in the F4 Winter Series following Snetterton, four points clear of Mectech Motorsports' Connor Jupp from Essex. In turn, Jupp has a four point lead over HHC's Harri Newey – son of legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey – who celebrated his single-seater debut with fifth place finishes in Races 1 and 2, fourth in Race 4 and sixth in Race 4.

Comma is Technical Partner to BRDC Formula 4, and in addition to sponsoring Will Palmer in the 24 race series, supplies Comma brand lubricants, coolants and maintenance chemicals to all teams competing in the championship.
