Palmer grabs championship top ten berth on international debut

Comma-sponsored Will Palmer made a promising and positive first foray into international competition in the opening rounds of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain on the weekend of April 16/17.

Having qualified in the lower half of the grid for the first of the meeting's three contests, 19 year old Palmer, from Southwater, West Sussex, drove a typically combative race to finish thirteenth overall on his maiden outing and claim sixth place in the hotly disputed Rookie class.

Race 2 on Saturday really put wind in the sails of the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 champion and
McLaren 'Autosport' award winner as Will battled aggressively from eleventh on the grid to claim sixth place overall, fourth in the Rookie class and post his first eight points on the
championship leader board.

Aiming to sustain his momentum in the final race of the weekend, Will was obliged to adopt a
defensive strategy after a first lap mid-field incident at the hairpin hobbled him with a
damaged car for the rest of the contest. The handicap proved too much to overcome, and
despite spirited resistance, he was shuffled from thirteenth on the grid to twentieth at the
flag.

Finishing the weekend with an immediate top ten slot – ninth – in the championship table
must go a long way to compensating Comma's standard bearer for the disappointment of the
final race in Aragon, and with high hopes after such an encouraging international debut, Will
now heads to the iconic Monza circuit in Italy to contest the first round of the Formula
Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) championship on April 23/24.
We will be reporting on Will's progress throughout the season, and you can also follow him
